Do you listen to the whispers of your soul?
Do you allow yourself the time to be still and go within?
With the hectic pace of today’s world it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and allow the sounds of the world to drown out the whisper our souls are longing for us to hear. Of course, my intention every day is to stay tuned into my heart and listen to the whispers of my soul but like so many of you I still struggle with creating the space in my life to slow down. At times I remind myself of an important truth with the infamous line from the old Virginia Slims commercial “You’ve come a long way baby!” and lovingly pat myself on the back.
That truth allows me to be more gentle with myself when I become aware that I am caught up in existing and doing instead of living and being. In that moment of awareness I flip my ‘heart switch’, bring myself back to the moment, slow down and reconnect with my inner wisdom.
This weekend was one of those times! I was experiencing a sense of inner unrest that I couldn’t particularly name. Maybe you’ve experienced it too. That moment when you realize that you’ve allowed yourself to become so busy trying to ‘get it all done’ that you’ve become almost robotic in your existence instead of feeling connected to your source, your relationships and most importantly yourself.
“Your inner unrest is your Soul whispering to you “Remember me; Hear Me; Allow me to lead you” – Linda Joy
On Saturday of this past weekend I chose to tune into my inner unrest – shut off the computer, sit out on my waterfront patio and just BE. No book, no music – just myself, nature and the beauty of the moment. In the past I would’ve just pushed forward with completing my never-ending to “DO” list allowing my ‘old story’ to kick-in in order to smother the feelings coming up and the message that it may bring. As I tuned into my body I could feel myself relaxing, almost melting into the cushion of my rattan chair. I could feel my thinking mind slowing down with each breath I took.
“Ahhh”, said my body as my shoulders dropped.
“Mmmmm,” said my Spirit as I continued to take deep, cleansing breaths that brought me closer to my essence.
My eyes on a beautiful hawk circling the pond I relaxed deeper into the moment and asked my Soul out-loud “What would you like me to know?” As I waited for a message I continued to watch the hawk as he circled above the patio.
Quite a few minutes pass so with a lightness of spirit I say, again out-loud “Hello Spirit… I am waiting! Any message for me?”
As more time passes I find myself deeply connected to the moment, feeling the heat and warmth of the day on my skin and enjoying the hawk as I begin to wonder if he is showing off for me. His wings spread in all their glory as he soars and seems to cut through the day’s humidity with ease. I feel my heart swell with love as I continue to watch him. I become lost in the moment as I relax into the beauty all around me. I hear children across the pond laughing and giggling in their summer play. I wave as my neighbor’s pass by on their paddle-boat enjoying the beauty of the day.
Over an hour passes with no message from Spirit. Nothing, nada! Usually I receive my messages via strong inner knowings, phrases or for the big epiphany’s what I’ve come to call Divine downloads. It’s that moment when you have a sudden sense of ‘yes, that’s it!” But today, none of that! Zip, zero, zilch!
“I guess Spirit needed a day off too”, I giggled to myself!
Suddenly I am hit with the realization that over two hours have passed since I had came down to the patio with the intention of getting an answer to the unrest in my heart. As I processed that realization I also noticed that my energy had powerfully shifted and I was feeling so much more grounded, joyful and light! I was filled with a sense of gratitude and peace for all of life.
“Maybe I didn’t need a message from Spirit after all” I thought, “just needed a little down time.”
As I savored my last few moments of solitude I looked up for my friend the Hawk. He was gone!
As I lay in bed Saturday evening reviewing my day and mentally doing my Gratitude List I was tuned into the Divine energy all around me. Feeling happy, content and grounded in love I lovingly said to Spirit …
“I hope you enjoyed your day off. I never received your message but I’m feeling much better now.”
As I do each night, I drew an Angel card from one of my many decks and laughed out loud when I pulled “Cordelia- Go Outside: You have been indoors too long. Go outside and get some fresh air.”
“Ok, Ok, I get it! It looks like you had a message for me after all.”
As I sleepily placed the card back in the deck I suddenly ‘heard’ Spirit’s response….
“Dear one, my message was sent time and time again today through the Hawk circling above! I waited for you to release your vision of HOW the message was to come. I am always with you – you only have to stay in awareness to receive me.”
As I hugged my pillow tighter and drifted off to sleep I felt embraced in the love of Source.

What a message meant for me today! Thank you.
I am “waiting for an aswer”. I think we all get caught up in how that message will or should arrive. We fail to realize that it is circling like your hawk around us as we speak. Now I need to pay attention and see if my answer is already here!
What a wonderful reminder…

Wow, Linda! This is such a magical post that inspires me in so many ways!
This part gave me chills (in a good way):
“I waited for you to release your vision of HOW the message was to come. I am always with you – you only have to stay in awareness to receive me.”
While you were waiting for your message, your body was resting and “doing” exactly what it needed to be doing. I love it!
I love how we’re always connected to our source and always taken care of by the universe.
And I love that you’re listening and resting.
You are amazing.
Sending you so much love!

What a great post and great message, Linda! It’s perfect! How often do we get hung up on the “hows” that we completely miss the message? I know I’ve done it many, many times, and will probably do it many, many more times!
Anyway, glad you listened to your soul and took some time off. The scene you described is perfectly idyllic, and what a great way to melt into Divine Flow.
Many Blessings,
Alice

As I keep reminding myself, all we have to do is “be here now”. Being present, content and enjoying the moment fully is our connection to source and our Being. Yet it is so easy to forget this. Thank you Linda for sharing your experience and reminding me that at any time we can access divine spirit and the importance of doing this as often as possible.

Beautiful 🙂
I have spent almost all of the last 9 years living steps away from the ocean with my children (many of them on a sailboat). Each morning I view the sunrise, each evening I view the sunset and my heart soars. I feel each one is a reminder of beauty, grace, infinite possibility…a gentle invitation for a heart opening. I tend to tear up each time. I sometimes ask for a message, as you did…and it comes in the colors, or the absence of color, or the temperature..or a person passing through…and sometimes there is silence…
I love how you allowed the experience to unfold…and that you chose to share it with us, as a reminder that answers are perfectly placed in ways that we may best receive them, and rise effortlessly when given ample time and space 🙂

Joy, (love your name)
As you shared, our soul speaks to in every moment – from the beauty of nature to every interaction we experience. It is when we open ourselves to receiving those messages that we are blessed with a state of grace.
I’m honored our paths have crossed and look forward to learning more about the work, love & wisdom you bring to the world.
Meardis Wells says
Thank you for your sharing your wisdom. I agree – Spirit speaks to us in many ways. The Soul prefers to communicate via our feelings because we can readily understand the emotion that is driving the feeling. I’ve reset my emotional “default” to Love but every now and then the old familiar system will populate a fear based thought or feeling. Today is one of those days. I feel my Spirit communicating with me now, my third and fifth chakras have a block of energy. As I type this comment, my eyes are misting up – “She” has something to communicate to me. If I don’t commit to sit, She will get Louder. Much Love
LindaJoy says
Meardis, we all experience moments of having to hit the ‘reset’ button. I love your description, I can visualize us all having a “LOVE Reset” button that we can hit each time we experience fear based thoughts. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

Oh yes Linda, I hear you. Especially at the moment. My offline business has been hit hard these past 4 years but during that time I have written my book and got it ‘out there’. My days are usually fueled with a desire to reach more people, help more people and understand this whole internet marketing ‘thing’.
And then I feel that tightness and I have to remind myself what I advise others – get back in touch with nature. Reconnect. Be still. Why is the hardest person to listen to – ourselves? 🙂
LindaJoy says
Honoring the whispers of your soul isn’t always easy is it? But it’s oh so worth it. Congrats on the hard work and commitment it takes to write a book.

This is wonderful!! Thank you for sharing. I have had a similar week last week and when I allowed myself to just BE (which is not the norm for me) everything shifted. Here’s to giving ourselves more fresh air and time off! : )

Oh, Dear Linda,
This magical article is just what I need today and forward……
Wow…I feel so grateful to read this today and and it sing to my heart….Calling of Soul and Spirit to relax and rest and go with the flow..Wow..Wow..Wow..THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Joan Kappes says
Thank you for sharing this timeless story, Linda! We are constantly invited to ‘live in the moment’ and to be aware of the messages that are always lovingly presented to us. As you so clearly shared, we can hear those messages when we slow down with the intention to be present. And sometimes the best thing to ‘do’ is nothing! 🙂 This is a habit I am creating for myself and I really like it because as I refocus into my heart rather than on my mind chatter, I quickly become centered (which feels so good!) and when I do take action, I actually get more done in a shorter amount of time! A win-win all the way around!
LindaJoy says
Joan
Like you, I am still integrating this new habit, or intention into my life also. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of ‘doing’ that it’s important that we remain conscious of which energy we are in – being or doing.
Thanks for sharing your love and insights.

Hi Linda,
Such a lovely post. I honor the whispers of my soul by practicing mindfulness, doing my part and then trusting the process. My sacred life is a work in progress! XOX
LindaJoy says
Shann, taking inspired action and trusting the process is part of dancing with the sacred isn’t it? Big love my friend!

It was a very powerful moment for me … thank you for sharing your thoughts. It’s always wonderful to meet kindred spirits on the journey. Blessings!

Linda this is a beautiful post. It is a reminder to me to take it easy. Actually the Spirit has been speaking to me today as I received a similar blog in my inbox; time management is not what is important, wisdom and order is. Wisdom to know those things that are important and to order them in terms of what is priority.
My soul is telling me to stop worrying about the clock and the amount of work to be done, but to choose the better things. those things that will enrich my life, my family’s and others.
LindaJoy says
Hi Veronica
Like you I try to balance my TO-DO list with my TO-BE list because I’ve noticed that when I get into the frenetic energy of trying to ‘accomplish’ things instead of going within and ‘asking’ what truly needs to be done I’ve discovered I get SO much more done and It flows with ease and grace. Keep listening to those soul whispers!
Kellie says
I have been experiencing hearing those soul whispers a lot lately. It’s almost like a new frequency or channel is open. I’m loving it so much, as I rely so much on my intuitive gifts to make decisions and set goals.
LindaJoy says
Kellie
That’s a great description “a channel is open”! The more you continue to tune in and listen you’ll discover that the ‘channel’ becomes clearer and clearer and the intuitive insights come faster and faster. It’s all about building your trust muscles and that takes practice. Today, I lead my life my those soul whispers and I have to tell you, life flows with ease and grace in comparison to the years I spent living from fear, ego and self-judgment. You have so many gifts to share my friend… I can’t wait to see what your soul whispers lead you to create in your life (and business.)
Wendy says
I connect in with my entire Divine Team every morning and I clear and connect. I connect in a way to bring Love instead of fear so that whenever I am challenged my energy doesn’t nudge from the LOVE place!
LindaJoy says
Wendy, I get soul giggles when I see the term Divine Team because that’s what I call my sacred peeps too. I agree, when we stay tuned in and aligned with that vibrational energy we can only live and create from a place of LOVE and that’s where the magic happens.
Denise says
This is beautiful! The experience, the unconcluded way in which you allowed yourself to be…I”m such a student of this and appreciate your sharing!
Kristi Ling says
Love this! I’ve really been trying to honor the whispers more lately, and follow even the faint ones. And, the hawk is my spirit animal!

What a wonderful reminder and a beautiful message. I love the authenticity with which you write and the way you just lay your soul bare. We are most alive and in tune with Source in those moments when body, mind and soul are in alignment. As we learn to pay heed from the messages that come from, within, life truly does get so much easier.
P.S. I love the giggles! xo
Peggy Nolan says
What a powerful message you received. I also will go outside and simply be. Now that summer is here, the butterflies and dragonflies flit about my garden and if I sit perfectly still, with no expectation, dragonflies will land on me and say hello.
Sounds like you had the perfect magical day!
xo

Linda Joy, thank you for sharing this post. What a great reminder that with patience all things come. What a gift from Spirit to create space for you just to be all day. Your view from your front porch is enviable. I love the way you structure your days, too, ending with an Angel card and list of gratitudes for the day. You truly model what you teach, thanks for being you 🙂

Minette,, you’ve heard the ol’ saying ” we teach what we most have to learn”? That’s been my journey for the last 20 or so years as I learned to shift from rushing through life and living in the DO-ing mode into a more conscious, intentional BE-NGO mode, and my gratitude ritual is one of the most powerful tools in my transformational tool chest? Today I create space in every day to just BE and tune into my truth. thank you for stopping by my friend!

Linda, the message at the end brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for being my messenger. I need to Get Outside!
Joan Jakel says
Thank you for the beautiful reminder of the magic that unfolds when we connect with our spirit. I wrote a blog post on hawks awhile back since they were regularly showing up in my life. One of the hawk’s messages is to guide you to look at life from a fresh, new, different perspective. It looks like his message was delivered in how you disconnected, experienced mother nature and savored the simple pleasures of life.
I also pull from Doreen Virtue’s goddess cards – Nemetona, Sacred Space, is on my desk right now.
Thank you for your inspiration, wisdom and support of all that is truly important.
Namaste!

What a beautiful message and how it was delivered Linda! Such synchronicity… over the weekend I was feeling a restlessness also and decided to have a day off by going to the beach with my journal and simply BE. The oracle card I picked that evening also confirmed the messages I’d received throughout the day;) Gotta love those angel winks, right? Really beautifully written, thank you for sharing. I felt as if I was there with you as you described your magical day;) And I had to really giggle when I read your “I guess Spirit needed a day off too”!
Joyful blessings,
Tina

Tina, mmmm the beach! I too have a favorite beach that I go to when I need to reboot and recharge. It feeds my soul! My angel cards and journal, as well as my fav incense, accompany me on those sacred days too. Glad I brought a giggle to your heart!

Wow Linda! what a magical post and special message. I so loved the way you described your surroundings, thoughts and feelings. I so related to “getting caught up in the busyness of life” and “TO DO” lists. Good for you to take the time to relax, slow down and just “BE”. It’s a powerful lesson for all of us. Thanks for sharing.
